START SELF-STUDY →Yes. The Cellosophy Method is designed for students age 9 and up, and many students are adults who started in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond. Adults often learn faster than children because they follow written instructions, understand theory, and practice independently.
Most students complete Volume 1 in about one year and Volume 2 in another year. By Volume 3, students who implement structured practice techniques see exponential progress. Speed depends less on talent and more on how effectively you practice.
You can learn a great deal online. The Cellosophy video guides show you exactly what to do. But nothing fully replaces a teacher. If possible, find one and use the videos as a supplement.
The Cellosophy Method is a 15-volume curriculum for students age 9 and up. Unlike Suzuki, it teaches music reading from day one, includes theory and composition, features women composers in every volume, and covers 35 composers across 9 centuries. It was designed for one-on-one lessons and treats adults with the same rigor as children.
Method books are available through our sheet music store. The video course is available by subscription. Practice courses range from free (7-Day Primer) to $4,299 (Proper Popper Practice Project). Lessons with a Cellosophy-certified teacher are priced by the teacher.
